Two exceptional leaders, one incredible team.
Rob Broin
Few personalities in the renewable energy space can say that they grew a large-scale renewable energy company from the ground up. Rob Broin can. Rob is one of the founders and Chief Technology Officer of Broin Companies, now known as Poet Energy. When Rob left Poet, it was on the brink of becoming the largest ethanol producer in the world.
With more than 20 years of experience in producing bio-based energy, Rob’s understanding of the business is intrinsic and his technological savvy is without peer. In 1983, Rob and his family started experimenting with ethanol on the family farm in Wanamingo, Minnesota. By 1987, they were ready to commercialize it — and bought, modified and restarted a foreclosed ethanol plant in Scotland, South Dakota. Rob helped preside over the company’s rapid growth until his departure in 2007. During that tenure, he helped build 25 ethanol production plants in the U.S. and operate 19 of them — including one near Emmetsburg, Iowa that will be converted to a cellulosic ethanol site.
